Happy Mother's Day!

Being a mom has changed me and challenged me in so many ways. Mostly, I've been changed. I feel so much more alive and so much more purpose now. I knew that my life had purpose before but having a little growing person constantly under my influence is such a great reminder! My baby boy is one of the best things that have ever happened to me. Although still new to motherhood I can tell you it is work! It is a job that I am SERIOUS about. I'm responsible for shaping the mind of a future world changer! Children are not an accessory and motherhood is not glamorous (although I try honey!). There's crying, poop, insomnia, & throw up daily. But for everything that is not necessarily "good" I receive a multitude of blessing. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be the best mom I can to the sweetest boy I know.

Happy Mother's Day!

Break Out.

Today has been a roooough day!
Whew! I am exhausted already. ClassicBaby has been having some real trouble taking naps and It's wearing us both ouuut! Of course, the house is a total mess and because I have been trying to soothe ClassicBaby, I haven't gotten a chance to touch it. On top of that ClassicBoy and I are facing some very real pressure as the deadline to find partners for our ministry is coming quickly (and I do mean QUICKLY!) and we are nowhere near our goal. I'm also trying to work on a few other projects that have been dreams of mine for a long time. So, today I have been really feeling the weight of it all.
Sometimes in life we just have a lot of things piled up and we can't always toss a few things off. Sometimes we have to endure. Especially when we are being held responsible. I'll admit at times I just want to quit (and sometimes I do). I will want to give up & run away. You, know move to another city and start over (which is actually just a clever form of procrastination). Life really does get difficult.

BUT

I am so glad I have a place to run when it does. That place is Jesus. I can honestly say, I have no idea where I'd be or what I may have done if it were not for him. My life would be completely destroyed if I had nowhere to go to relieve the pressure I feel at times. I have no idea how to handle the pains and pressures of life. I would be crushed by life. (btw just because you find something to distract you from the pain does not mean you have not been crushed.) I am so thankful to have found this place of rest and rescue in Jesus. I love that I can feel peace within moments of prayer. I almost broke down today. Im sure you mamas can relate. But in the midst of brokeness I remembered where my strength comes from and instead of breaking down, I BROKE OUT. I broke out into singing, I broke out into dancing, and I broke out in prayer.
Today I encourage you to BREAK OUT! Whatever the fog is that maybe covering your life, break out and live free!

Weekend Recap: instaTEXAS

Hey Y'all ! I hope you didn't think I forgot about you. As you know we took a family trip this past weekend! It was ClassicBaby's first plane ride and he did GREAT! He did not even make a peep, and slept the whole way. Our family was sooo excited to see ClassicBaby! I got a much needed mommy break too! Also, ClassicBaby turned 4 months over the weekend! In honor of his "maturity" ie. grabbing at my food, we decided to let him try applesauce! He loved it! It was so great just being with family. ClassicBoy got to reunite with one of his food faves this weekend; BJ's potato skins! We dont have a BJ's so that was fun. OH! I was also introduced to one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, SAM MOON! If you've never heard of it, it is a huge store that is wall-to-wall accessories! Seriously amazing! I was in heaven lol Annnnd we got to meet Deion Sanders! We had so much fun on our trip that I wanted to bring you along! (via pictures) ENJOY!!

Doin' the Most.

You know I spent many of my single years wondering, how do moms do it all?
I mean they cook, clean, shop, make the schedules, organize the home, work out, make clothes, build houses, own empires...

Then I had a baby and realized, they don't.

Well at least I don't, and believe me I tried! I really did give all of my effort to do everything. I wanted so badly to be the super mom who cooked every meal, whose child starts reading at three months, who lost all of her weight at the hospital, whose house was spotless, and who leads ten charities! (Sigh)
This was not even the extent of my hope either. I also wanted to be the super wife as well! (read about that here)
I would even beat myself up about all the things I did not do, but "needed" to do. I just had to be "That mom." After awhile, I found myself losing confidence and extremely overwhelmed. I saw all of the moms around me and they looked like they had it all together. They always looked great, their homes were nice, their children were clean, and their hubby seemed happy. I felt like something was wrong with me. I would think,

"Why can't I get it together ?"
"What is wrong with me ?"

One day while questioning myself, I heard a gentle voice inside me say, "Nothing. Nothing is wrong with you." It was so freeing to hear that! To know that I'm OK. I didn't need to compare the way I lived to all of the moms around me. I realized, I had NO CLUE what those moms did or did not do. I was making assumptions of what they did based on the few times i'd see them or their homes, and then comparing myself to them. Comparison is a dangerous route to take and I am so happy I hopped off of it before I completely destroyed myself.

Furthermore, I actually talked with some of the moms. Guys, we do not, and can not do it all. Now don't get me wrong the moms I know are Workin' it honey! But as far as perfection goes, we are all far from it, and thats OKAY! The best advice I've received as a new mommy is, "Do what you can." So, that's what I do and I make sure I am giving those things my best.

This advice can also work for you single ladies too! I know we women struggle with comparing ourselves to others. But what I discovered is true for you as well, you have no clue what people are really doing! She might work out every day orrrr she may be naturally skinny. She may be the smartest in your class orrrr this may be her second time taking it. She might have the straightest teeth ever orrr she might be wearing Invisalign. I digress..

The Point is...

Comparing ourselves to others gets us nowhere. It makes us discouraged and dysfunctional. But when we do our best at what we can do (haha funny phrase), we excel and grow. So, thats the plan I'm sticking to. Will you join me?

Paradigm Shift

Something happened to me. Something changed. Do you ever have those life defining moments where you just feel... "different" down to the core? It feels new, it feels alive! You're excited because it is different and exciting, but you are also terrified because it is unknown.

New life has that effect.

The birth of ClassicBaby was not my first experience with new life, but the feeling was so similar.
In a single moment, my life was changed.
My goals, my dreams, and in the simplest form my daily activities. I knew that "babies change everything!" Although, I did not think that "I" would be changed.

Before ClassicBaby, I had been stuck in this life-sucking vortex of despair. I know I know, "But you're such a happy person!" ..And I am but, somedays were really low for me. It seemed like I was losing all of my friends one-by-one, I wasn't making connections at work, I wasn't excelling in my different roles,    I was a new wife, I mean the works! Honestly, I was placing my identity in the wrong things, and that had me in the fight of my life. I was an emotionally roller coaster. Sweet ClassicBoy stood by me through it all too, poor guy! I wasn't just sitting in my mess either. I was trying everything to get out of the pit I was in. I tried listening to sermons, praying, making new friends, you name it. But you know how sometimes you can want something from someone more than an actual relationship with the person? ie. Staying in a relationship with a guy because he buys you nice things. Yea, well lets just say it doesn't work! Needless to say, I was in a tough place and I was desperate to get out.

Then ClassicBaby was born!

Wow! Can I just say, children are the living expression of joy! I felt like I could finally come up for air! Well, that and I was completely distracted from everything not ClassicBaby related haha! But I truly did experience NEW life when my baby was born.

ClassicBaby helped to realign my life's focus. I mean when you have this beautiful child smiling at you all day, all you can do is cry out thanking God. I mean seriously, I was so overwhelmed with love! Then I remembered, that is how my father loves me! That's how he looks at, holds, speaks to, and cares for me. What a sweet reminder.

I began to feel life growing inside of me once again, but not human life. No it wasn't the precious wiggles I had once felt. There was an overwhelming, empowering, all consuming life growing in me. With that, something changed in me. I can literally say, I am not the same and it is because of the LIFE in me!

As I look at my child each day, I see a gift sent as a reminder of how I am loved and cared for. That gives me life, and a great purpose to live the way I do!

Have you experienced New life?
