Life Lessons

We all ask the question “what am I here for?” and shortly after try to answer the question in a day (or shorter for some). This is a question I have answered many times. Each time being a different answer lol. Some of us (definitely ME) like to try to figure everything out. Not just, “why am I here?” but… “Why am I here…if I’m here to do this, then how do I do it? where do I need to go? …Who do I need to ask? Once I’m done what do I do? …Is this really what I am here to do? Wait, was I wrong? …Should I start over? …And you get the picture. What ensues is a giant thought cloud that only hovers and makes for very gloomy days…

This summer, I am changing.

I don't have all the answers but...

I am learning to truly trust. To trust that there is good for me to have, that I have been given an amazing life altering message to share with the world, that, I have gifts to share, that I am truly loved, and it’s not conditional upon what I do or don’t do, I just am.

Trust can change you, you know? When hard times come it becomes very clear WHOM you trust and don’t trust. It is like an anchor for your heart. For a long time I had my anchor cast into my own heart but was convinced it was elsewhere. Even when I’d completely loose myself to frustration or fear in hard times, I was still convinced. But Trust does not produce fear. Now, that I have intentionally cast my anchor into the heart of God, I am changing.

Because I trust him, I can rest.

I don’t feel the need to spend hours in a thought cloud trying to figure out the “why’s” & “how’s” of life. Instead, I feel confident taking life day-by-day. I get excited about what each day will reveal and I am not afraid to make moves when I don’t know the answers.

I guess that’s the thing about trust, huh? You’ve got to just fall backwards and know (keyword) that someone will catch you. We can’t catch ourselves.

Who will catch you?

Life Update: Nashville

So, I know I've been a little M.I.A. lately but I promise I have a good reason. A very good one actually. I'm not sure if I've shared this with you but my hubby and I (and baby of course) moved to Nashville! ...for the summer.
No, this is not some fabulous country getaway either. Well, not intentionally.
We are here for some ministry training because we are becoming missionaries! I know, I know, missionary-fashionista what? But it works for me!

I am really loving Nashville so far! It is beautiful here. I am a big fan of nature and open spaces so I'm currently in awe. It's really great to have time to be with my hubby and other people with the same vision as us. We are learning so much!

The most impactful thing i've learned so far, is to discover and strengthen my natural abilities. We are all wired with natural talents. Some of us have yet to even discover what they are, let alone how to use them! So I'm really excited to continue growing and learning about how to do what I was made for.

What are your natural talents?
Would you like more Nashville updates?

Happy Mother's Day!

Being a mom has changed me and challenged me in so many ways. Mostly, I've been changed. I feel so much more alive and so much more purpose now. I knew that my life had purpose before but having a little growing person constantly under my influence is such a great reminder! My baby boy is one of the best things that have ever happened to me. Although still new to motherhood I can tell you it is work! It is a job that I am SERIOUS about. I'm responsible for shaping the mind of a future world changer! Children are not an accessory and motherhood is not glamorous (although I try honey!). There's crying, poop, insomnia, & throw up daily. But for everything that is not necessarily "good" I receive a multitude of blessing. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be the best mom I can to the sweetest boy I know.

Happy Mother's Day!

Stay in your lane.

**Sniiiff**
...Ahh...you smell that?

Something is in the air y'all! I don't know what's going on but there is a potent whiff of inspiration in the air lately. I have been inspired by so many things, it's amazing!
Maybe it's because I have been bottling up my creativity for so many years and now that I'm releasing it, it's overflowing? I'm not sure. All I know is, "I'm lovin' it." *cues McDonalds song*

It feels so good to be able to express myself through different gifts and interests. I wonder if sometimes we work too hard on the things we think will give us happiness in life versus the things we naturally do well at and enjoy. If there is one thing I've learned in life so far, it's stay in your lane. It is so easy to get caught up chasing money and comparing ourselves to others.

STOP!

You have your own gifts and talents that are beautiful and they are you. Just like a size 16 dress on a size 4 girl (annnd vice versa) does not look appealing, no one else's personality/lifestyle/ideas will fit you. It wasn't made to. We are all beautiful, talented, and creative. Use what you've got! Don't allow comparison to steal your confidence. Do some soul searching and find your natural abilities. Pretending to be someone you're not brings no joy.
Live free & be YOURSELF!
Find your lane, commit to it, and WERRK!

Note to self: RELAX!

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, being a wife is not what I expected...
You still here? Okay good.

I don't say that to say it's horrible, but it's simply not what I expected. Let me be clear...
What I expected was: to spend my days cleaning and decorating from the latest Martha Stewart catalog.  I'd prepare every single meal for ClassicBoy from SCRATH three times a day. The house would never be a mess, and I'd host dinner parties once a week to introduce my latest creation. I would ALWAYS look hot, always. I would stay dressed like the latest edition of Vogue, and my hair and make-up would be flawless! I'd work out at least five times a week. I would cater to ClassicBoy constantly and never get tired, ever. I'd do all of this while working and being a full-time student. From the moment ClassicBoy got home from work, I would wait on him hand-and-foot. We would have a candle lit dinner every night after which we'd slow dance to smooth jazz and... Need I go on?

(Pause)

Sorry, I had to take a moment to laugh because that right there ^^^ is hilarious!
Boy was I in for a ruuuude awakening! All of you singles who are expecting the same thing I hope that just shattered your frame of thinking because being a wife, is NOT like that.

It is SO MUCH more.

One of the greatest things I have learned in marriage is to RELAX. Yes, breathe and relax with all those expectations. Expectations when reasonable AND communicated, can be a really great thing for any relationship. On the other hand expectations that are unreasonable and not communicated will destroy any relationship.

Your spouse(future or present) is not expecting you to be perfect and you should not expect that of your spouse or self either. We are NOT PERFECT! I mean not be a extremely long shot, and that's ok.

It is okay to be flawed.

That was such a hard thing for me to accept but I am so glad I did. Now, I am more able to receive both correction and encouragement without pride creeping in.

Next time you feel your inner psycho-perfectionist trying to make a scene, tell her to have a seat and RELAX.

Kitchen Favorite

Last night I made a ClassicHouse favorite!

Pioneer woman's Chicken tortilla soup. Mmm mm! We seriously make this at least twice a month because it is just that good. If you love mexican food, or are just in the mood for something warm and cozy try this recipe! You will not regret it.

Paradigm Shift

Something happened to me. Something changed. Do you ever have those life defining moments where you just feel... "different" down to the core? It feels new, it feels alive! You're excited because it is different and exciting, but you are also terrified because it is unknown.

New life has that effect.

The birth of ClassicBaby was not my first experience with new life, but the feeling was so similar.
In a single moment, my life was changed.
My goals, my dreams, and in the simplest form my daily activities. I knew that "babies change everything!" Although, I did not think that "I" would be changed.

Before ClassicBaby, I had been stuck in this life-sucking vortex of despair. I know I know, "But you're such a happy person!" ..And I am but, somedays were really low for me. It seemed like I was losing all of my friends one-by-one, I wasn't making connections at work, I wasn't excelling in my different roles,    I was a new wife, I mean the works! Honestly, I was placing my identity in the wrong things, and that had me in the fight of my life. I was an emotionally roller coaster. Sweet ClassicBoy stood by me through it all too, poor guy! I wasn't just sitting in my mess either. I was trying everything to get out of the pit I was in. I tried listening to sermons, praying, making new friends, you name it. But you know how sometimes you can want something from someone more than an actual relationship with the person? ie. Staying in a relationship with a guy because he buys you nice things. Yea, well lets just say it doesn't work! Needless to say, I was in a tough place and I was desperate to get out.

Then ClassicBaby was born!

Wow! Can I just say, children are the living expression of joy! I felt like I could finally come up for air! Well, that and I was completely distracted from everything not ClassicBaby related haha! But I truly did experience NEW life when my baby was born.

ClassicBaby helped to realign my life's focus. I mean when you have this beautiful child smiling at you all day, all you can do is cry out thanking God. I mean seriously, I was so overwhelmed with love! Then I remembered, that is how my father loves me! That's how he looks at, holds, speaks to, and cares for me. What a sweet reminder.

I began to feel life growing inside of me once again, but not human life. No it wasn't the precious wiggles I had once felt. There was an overwhelming, empowering, all consuming life growing in me. With that, something changed in me. I can literally say, I am not the same and it is because of the LIFE in me!

As I look at my child each day, I see a gift sent as a reminder of how I am loved and cared for. That gives me life, and a great purpose to live the way I do!

Have you experienced New life?
